Based in: Toronto

Genre: Afrobeats, Alté, R&B

For fans of: Drake, Wizkid, Rema

Having lived in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and now Canada, it’s no wonder Nonso Amadi moves so gracefully between different genres. His music is a tapestry of influences from around the world, pulling from the best of Alté, Afro-fusion, hip-hop, and R&B to invent a sound that is uniquely his own.

In 2019, just as his career was taking off, Nosno stepped away from social media and paused the release of all music—he wanted to separate from the noise and take a deeper dive into his artistry. Since his triumphant return last year, it’s been clear that Nonso has ascended to a new level.

In June 2023, Nonso Amadi releases ‘When It Blooms’, his first comprehensive body of work, celebrating years of evolution as an artist and an individual. “I want people to listen to this project and know who I am and what I’ve gone through,” reflects Nonso. “I want to make great songs that tell my story for you. When It Blooms embodies my creative and personal growth, reflecting on my journey up until this point. I feel this message is best represented in the growth from seeds to a flower, uncoiling naturally for you.”

For Nonso, collaboration is second nature. ‘When It Blooms’ features collaborations with Majid Jordan, BEAM, Zinoleesky, and more. Plus he’s been on a streak of amazing features with artists including Savannah Ré, Pronto, 255, and Emotional Oranges.

Since his return to music, the industry has recognized Nonso as one of the great trailblazers in Afrobeats. The SOCAN Foundation recenty presented Nonso with a prestigious SiriusXM Black Canadian Music Award and Nonso was featured on the ‘VEVO DSCVR Artists to Watch 2023’ list alongside peers including Ice Spice, Armani White and GloRilla.

Nonso is gearing up for more shows this summer, including summer festivals like Mural Festival in Montreal June 10 alongside Koffee, Dinos and Ferg. Stay updated on the latest show announcements here and in the meantime, ‘When It Blooms’ is yours to keep 🌸
